KENNEWICK — The trial of a man accused of fatally shooting three people in a Benton County orchard, with opening statements slated for Wednesday.
The Tri-City Herald reported that jury selection for the trial of Francisco Resendez Miranda, 24, began Monday and the court hopes to seat a 12-member panel with two alternates on Tuesday afternoon.
Prosecutors say Resendez Miranda killed Abigail Torres-Renteria, 23, Victoria Torres, 19 and David Perez-Saucedo, 22, last summer. The bodies of the Pasco residents were found in August 2014 in a field 15 miles from Resendez Miranda’s apartment.
During a synopsis of the case to potential jurors, the judge said Torres-Renteria was pregnant at the time of her death.
Court documents show the killings may have been in retaliation for a break-in at the apartment the night before.
