MARYSVILLE — Senior running back Austin Honeycutt rushed for 174 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries as Ferndale defeated Marysville Pilchuck in a 3A District Playoff on Tuesday night.
Ferndale (7-3) pounded Marysville Pilchuck with their ground game in a four-pronged attack as James Hinson carried the ball 10 times for 171 yards and a touchdown and Cole Semu ran in two scores for the Golden Eagles.
The biggest run of the night however came from Justice Powell who burst free for a 73-yard touchdown scamper in the first quarter. Powell, a junior, finished with 171 yards on 10 carries.
Marysville Pilchuck’s leading rusher was Garrett Anderson with 10 carries for 100 yards and Erik Lind threw two touchdowns for the Tomahawks in the loss.
With the win, Ferndale advances to play Bellevue at Bellevue High School on November 7 at 7pm. The winner of that game will play in the state tournament.
