BELLINGHAM — Lakewood fell in four sets to Squalicum but stayed alive in the 2A District 1 Tournament with a five-set victory over Shorecrest on Wednesday.
Morgan Shimkus led the Cougars against Squalicum with 12 kills and 18 digs. Nicole Williamson added nine kills, Lexi Perry recorded 14 digs, and Mariah Jensen made 25 assists and 12 digs.
In a loser-out match against Shorecrest, it was Shimkus (17 kills, 37 digs) and Williamson (eight kills, 21 digs) leading the way for Lakewood once again.
Jensen recorded 41 assists and Jenna Melton added 21 digs for Lakewood in the win.
Lakewood (7-9) advances and will face Anacortes in a loser-out match at noon Saturday at Shorecrest High School.
“We just need to concentrate on playing our game and stay focused,” Lakewood head coach Tasha Kryger said. “If we get the pass up, the rest will take care of itself.”
