STANWOOD — An upcoming workshop aims to teach property owners in north Snohomish County about preventing bacterial pollution in the lower Stillaguamish River basin.
It’s scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. Nov. 14 at Stanwood High School, 7400 272nd Street NW. Attendees can expect to learn more about resources to identify and correct problems. In some cases, landowners might be eligible for financial incentives to address pollution.
Contamination in the Stillaguamish basin comes from fecal coliform bacteria, which is found in feces of people, livestock, pets and wildlife. Exposure to contaminated water can cause illness and disease.
The county encourages anyone from the area to attend, especially those who own livestock or pets or live in homes that are on septic systems.
The workshop is sponsored by the Lower Stillaguamish River Pollution Identification and Correction Program, which is led by the Snohomish County Public Works Department in coordination with multiple local agencies.
