YAKIMA. — Police are seeking attempted murder charges against a Yakima man they say built a bomb to kill his ex-girlfriend’s partner.
The Yakima Herald reports that the 36-year-old man was already facing related federal charges when he was arrested Tuesday afternoon. His bail was set a $500,000 during a Wednesday court hearing.
County deputy prosecutor Ken Ramm says police also arrested the man’s 21-year-old brother-in-law. Yakima detectives believe the men conspired to design a car bomb.
Authorities say the daughter of the intended victim found a suspicious device at the end of their driveway in July. Police say the device was a bomb powerful enough to kill.
Yakima detectives worked with the FBI and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Army bomb technicians on the case.
