The Game
Another night, another 2-1 game for the Everett Silvertips. It was the Tips’ third straight game ending in that fashion and the last two have been victorious efforts.
Friday night’s victory over Prince George came at 3:21 in overtime as defenseman Kevin Davis scored his first goal since January to give the Tips the victory.
While last Sunday’s 2-1 victory at Portland came in regulation it’s worth noting that another defenseman – Cole MacDonald – scored the game-winner against the Winterhawks.
Head coach Kevin Constantine has been emphasizing the number of chances created, and
the Tips once again had no trouble creating shots. They outshot Prince George 38-24 for the game including a 14-8 showing in the first period, and 6-1 in the extra session.
The game was scoreless through two periods before both teams scored about two minutes apart in the third period.
Dawson Leedahl put the Tips ahead with a finish off a pass from Carson Stadnyk in the right corner at 4:53.
Brogan O’Brien answered at 7:00 for Prince George when no one but O’Brien seemed to be able to find the puck in traffic.
The Tips switched centers on their first two lines as Remi Laurencelle went to the second line with Matt Fonteyne heading to the first. Leedahl and Stadnyk remained on the first line while Patrick Bajkov and Dario Winkler stayed on the second.
The Turning Point
Davis’ goal in overtime. The 18-year-old said he was trying to pass to Stadnyk, but the puck was deflected into the goal to give Everett the victory.
Three Stars
1. Everett F Dawson Leedahl: The captain had a goal waved off in the second period before scoring his third goal of the season in the third to put the Tips on the board.
2. Prince George G Ty Edmonds: Goaltenders have shown up frequently in recent Silvertips games. Edmonds was very impressive with 36 saves in the loss and really didn’t have a chance on Davis’ game-winner.
3. Everett G Carter Hart: Another night, another 23 saves for the 17-year-old netminder. Hart (7-4-0-1) lowered his goals against average to 1.98 and has a .932 save percentage. Hart is now fourth in the WHL in both GAA and save percentage. Only Victoria’s Coleman Vollrath leads him in both categories.
