MILL CREEK — Stephen Sondheim’s musical “Into the Woods” is on the Jackson High School’s Theatre Society stage this month with a large cast.
The musical, which James Lapine premiered on Broadway in 1987 with stars including Bernadette Peters and Joanna Gleason, became a movie in 2014 starring Meryl Streep, Anna Kendrick, Emily Blunt and James Corden.
The musical intertwines the plots of Brothers Grimm and Charles Perrault fairy tales including “Little Red Riding Hood,” “Jack and the Beanstalk,” “Rapunzel,” and “Cinderella.”
It’s tied together by an original story involving a child-less baker and his wife. A witch who has placed a curse on them and they interact with other storybook characters along their journey to be able to have a child.
The Jackson High production is directed by Brian Marshall.
Tickets, sold at the door, are $10 general admission, $8 with an ASB card, $6 for children 12 and under.
The cast includes Rhonda Salsbery as the narrator; Julianna Crane, Cinderella; Michael Fouch, Jack; Alexa Fouch, Jack’s mother; Jeremy Steckler as the baker and Marguerite Ainsworth as his wife; Kaiya Mohlman, the Witch; Bridget VanHorne, Cinderella’s stepmother; Emma Johnson, Florinda; Soo Jung Kim, Lucinda; Trent Salsbery as Cinderella’s father and Jamie Mertens as her mother.
Zach Fraser is the mysterious man; Jackson Stoffel, the Wolf; Maggie McBride, Granny; Rachel Kearns, Rapunzel; Ethan Lee, Rapunzel’s prince; Connor Konen, Cinderella’s prince; Jack Moon, the steward; and Julia Lindstrom, the Giant.
