EVERETT — The Everett Silvertips have been giving their fans plenty of extra hockey, although it might come at the expense of the collective blood pressure of the Everett faithful.
The Tips played their third overtime game in seven home contests this season Friday and came out on top in overtime as Kevin Davis scored off an assist from Remi Laurencelle at 3:21 in overtime before 3,879 fans at Xfinity Arena.
Davis shot from the right side and the puck bounced off a sliding Brad Morrison of Prince George across the line for the game-winner.
“Ho-ly,” Davis said afterward. “Honestly I tried to pass to Stads (Carson Stadnyk), but it just went off their guys, I’m pretty sure. It’s one of those lucky ones.”
Stadnyk was waiting on the left side of the crease, but he didn’t have a chance to play the puck.
It was the second consecutive 2-1 victory for the Tips (7-4-0-1, 15 points), who won by the same tally Sunday at Portland — though that result came in regulation.
After a scoreless first two periods each team found the net in the third.
Dawson Leedahl opened the scoring when he took a right-corner feed from Carson Stadnyk and found the left side of the net for Everett’s first goal at 4:53 in the third.
The Cougars answered in short order. Morrison fired a shot from the right side into traffic. It deflected off a Silvertip skate to Brogan O’Brien, who buried it to make it 1-1 at 7:00 in the final period.
It wouldn’t have reached the extra session had the Tips not had an apparent go-ahead goal waived off at 17:12 in the second period. Carson Stadnyk battled for the puck at the right side of the net before it slid across the crease to a waiting Leedahl, went top shelf for what most of the arena thought was a goal.
But the officials disagreed. They ruled the puck had been blown dead prior to Leedahl’s shot and the game remained scoreless.
That play came several minutes after Everett had another prime opportunity. At 11:34 in the second when Patrick Bajkov corralled the puck in front of the net, but Prince George goaltender Ty Edmonds sprawled across the crease to thwart the attempt.
Everett had no trouble creating opportunities as it tallied 38 shots to the Cougars’ 24. The Tips outshot Prince George 6-1 in the extra session.
“I thought we deserved that win,” Davis said. “I thought we all contributed really well, and I thought we just played a good defensive game.”
Carter Hart recorded 23 saves for the win while counterpart Edmonds had 36 saves in the loss.
Prince George was playing without star center Jansen Harkins who has missed three games due to illness.
The Silvertips continue their current homestand when they play host to Vancouver at 7 p.m. tonight at Xfinity Arena.
Notes
The Tips switched up centers on their first two lines with Matt Fonteyne replacing Laurencelle to join Leedahl and Stadnyk on the first line. … Fonteyne was whistled twice for slashing in the first period including 10 seconds into the game.
