ARLINGTON — Senior midfielder Bianca Acuario scored two goals and assisted on a third as Marysville Pilchuck dominated Stanwood in the game for the district’s third and final berth to the Class 3A state tournament.
Acuario assisted on the game’s first goal, setting up teammate Trina Davis for a shot from in front that put the Tomahawks on the board about seven minutes into the game. Acuario scored her first goal about eight minutes before halftime, taking a nice pass from teammate Olivia Lee just right of the goal and sending a shot into the left side of the net.
In the second half, Acuario’s third goal was a dandy as she maneuvered into an open space about 25 yards out and sent a rocket into the upper right corner of the net.
“She’s a senior,” said Tomahawks coach Paul Bartley, “and she’s made a really big impact in the three (district) playoff games. Just rising to the top, taking advantage of opportunities and finishing. (Finishing) is something that we didn’t do early in the season and now we are.”
The game was played in an almost constant downpour, “and a shutout in these conditions, I thought it was a really good game,” he said. “I thought that every time we played in districts, we’ve improved. (We’re getting) quicker movement of the ball, better awareness of space and taking advantage of opportunities and actually finishing.”
