YAKIMA — A federal prosecutor has been selected to serve as magistrate judge in Yakima’s U.S. District Court to fill the vacancy of a retiring judge.
The Yakima Herald-Republic reported that assistant U.S. attorney, Mary Dimke, was recently appointed to replace Magistrate Judge James Hutton, who announced his retirement earlier this year. Dimke will begin her eight-year term on the magistrate’s bench Jan. 14.
Dimke, a native of Asotin County, handled cases involving trafficking in counterfeit goods, tax evasion and child pornography as a federal prosecutor.
When she begins her new role as federal magistrate judge, she will preside over initial appearances and preliminary hearings in criminal cases.
