Embraer names Lynnwood’s Nova-Tech Engineering as its top supplier in 2015

LYNNWOOD — Brazilian airplane maker Embraer has named Lynnwood-based Nova-Tech Engineering as its top supplier in 2015.

The award was announced Wednesday at Embraer’s supplier conference in Brazil.

The small firm provides tooling and equipment for several Embraer aircraft programs, including the E-170, E-175, E-190 and E-195 regional jetliners, and the KC-390, a military transport plane.

Nova-Tech Engineering landed Embraer as a client just a few years ago, said Bill Bigot, the firm’s vice president of business development.

“Once you get a chance, you have to deliver” if you want to land the next job, he said. “I joke that the sales team gets the first contract, and the operations team gets every one after that.”

Embraer has been a good company to work with, he said. “Decisions seem to happen fairly quickly here, and they have strong engineering.”

Airplane makers are cranking up production to meet growing global air travel.

That means lots of new business opportunities for Nova-Tech, he said.

The firm’s job is to solve customer’s production problems. That could mean, for example, improving the speed of a process or making it more accurate, he said.

“Sometimes the toughest part is making sure you solve all the customer’s concerns,” Bigot said.

Assembly tooling is expensive. So, Nova-Tech has to get it right the first time, he said. “If you completely miss the mark, there goes your profit margin.”
