Rotary hands over the keys to 1957 Belair
Each year for the past 20 years, Everett Port Gardner Rotary has sold and raffled off tickets to win a “sweet ride” classic Chevy. This year’s vehicle, a 1957 fully restored Chevy Belair, went to 2015 award winner Joe Spillane of Ashford. The keys were handed over Nov. 3 at Dwayne Lane Chevrolet in Smokey Point.
Everett Port Gardner Rotary members sell about 26,000 raffle tickets each year via mail, car shows and the Evergreen State Fair — raising about $46,000 that’s then distributed to a variety of local nonprofits and causes.
The local Rotary meets at 7:15 a.m. Wednesdays at Legion Memorial Golf Course Clubhouse, 144 W Marine View Drive in Everett. Learn more at http://portal.clubrunner.ca/271.
Everett Scouts promote TNR education
Kaiah Hinze and Dominique LeFrances of Everett Girl Scouts Troop 52145 were recently awarded their Girl Scouts Silver Awards. Their service project, completed in September, focused on educating the public about trapping, neutering and returning feral cats, or TNR. The girls worked with a local nonprofit cat rescue, then shared what they learned with local neighborhood and community association meetings. They also put together an informative webpage on Facebook; find it at http://tinyurl.com/ScoutTNR.
Grant helps provide special beds
The Everett Clinic Foundation recently awarded a $5,000 grant to Bethany of the Northwest Foundation for the purchase of 13 pressure-reduction mattresses for the residents at Bethany at Pacific. The mattresses will maintain skin integrity, avoid pain and disease, and offer comfort. “They will be a big plus to Bethany’s nursing staff,” said Ken Hammond, Bethany’s development director.
