Say cheese: Santa photos for pets, too

The Camano Animal Shelter Association holds its annual Pictures with Santa event — for families and pets — from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 14, with a break from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., at the Skagit Farmers Country Store, 8815 272nd St. NW in Stanwood.

Cost is $20 and includes a CD with four different pictures. All proceeds benefit CASA.

Play: Libraries celebrate Games Day

Sno-Isle Libraries celebrate International Games Day on Nov. 20-21, a celebration of gaming supported by the American Library Association and local Friends of the Library clubs. The idea is to reconnect communities through their libraries around the educational, recreational, and social value of all types of games.

Teen events the day before, Nov. 20:

*Coupeville: Tabletop Teens &Tweens, 12:30-2 p.m.

*Mukilteo: Teen Gaming, 3-5 p.m.

*Mill Creek: Teen Game Night, 7-9 p.m.

All-ages events Nov. 21:

*Brier: board and card games, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

*Clinton: board and card games, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

*Darrington: board and card games, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; plus Live Clue for ages 9-12, 10-11:30 a.m.

*Edmonds: board games and Wii, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

*Freeland: Lego, board games and Wii, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

*Lake Stevens: board games and Wii, or bring your own to share, 2-5 p.m.

Celebrate: Whale Center opening

The Langley Whale Center invites the community to celebrate the grand opening of its new location at 115 Anthes Ave., Langley, Whidbey Island. The Nov. 14 celebration includes author appearances, original live music, a Q-and-A, and more.

Refreshments, free posters and whale tattoos for kids will be available at the event as well as Nov. 15. The center is open 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursdays to Sundays.

A new traveling exhibit, “Whales in our Midst,” will be featured.

Patrol: Help Lynnwood Police with work

The Lynnwood Police Department is recruiting volunteers for its Citizens Patrol. Working in teams of two, Citizens Patrol members support the work of officers by directing traffic, opening locked vehicle doors, patrolling businesses and neighborhoods, assisting with vehicle battery jump starts, and much more.

Members are asked to sign up for two 4-hour evening shifts per month, and attend a monthly training meeting. Daytime and nighttime shifts on weekends also are available.

Volunteers must: be age 18 or older; attend a 13-week Citizens Academy to be held 7-10 p.m. Thursdays starting Jan. 7; and complete an application to the Citizens Patrol Training Academy (100 hours of specialized training that follows the Citizens Academy).
