Expect the Brier City Council to consider during the first half of 2016 a possible ban on the sale and discharge of all types of fireworks in the city at all times during the year.
Council action would come in response to the Brier advisory vote on the Nov. 3 ballot.
Ballots counted through Monday showed the advisory vote with a 54 percent “yes” vote for a full ban on fireworks.
Brier currently allows the sale of and discharge of fireworks only on the Fourth of July between 9 a.m. and 11:59 p.m.
Brier Mayor Bob Colinas said Friday that a decision to ban fireworks would have to come before July 4, 2016, to be effective July 4, 2017.
Colinas said that the advisory vote would give council members information about opinion on the issue. He said there was little chance it would come up before January.
The Brier City Council that will convene in January will be unchanged because incumbents John Joplin, Dale Kaemingk, Dennis Nick and Karin Steele all have won re-election. Joplin leads challenger Ken Yohe 83 percent to 17 percent, Kaeminingk leads David R. Wines 68 percent to 32 percent, and Steele leads Tony Corrado by a 72-28 percent margin, while is Nick is running unopposed.
