New road plan moving ahead
The city of Lynnwood is moving forward with plans for a new road in the future downtown area near where I-5 crosses 196th Street SW.
The road, tentatively called 42nd Avenue West, would run north-south between 198th Street SW and Alderwood Mall Boulevard. The city now is looking at a contract for a consultant to study the area and determine where intersections would go and what legal moves might be needed. That study is budgeted for up to $160,000.
Eventually, that part of town is supposed to become City Center, a downtown area with high-rise, high-density buildings. Two apartment complexes and a hotel are among the ongoing construction projects there. Eventually 198th Street SW is supposed to become a Main Street-style boulevard.
Friends of Edmonds Library to meet: The Friends of the Edmonds Library meets at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, for its annual meeting and to recognize volunteers. Thanksgiving grocery handouts in Lynnwood: Molina Healthcare is hosting two events in Lynnwood to give out reusable grocery bags full of Thanksgiving-themed food. One hundred bags are going to be distributed from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Lynnwood Food Bank, 5320 17th St. SW. The second distribution is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the Concerto Health Clinic, 2322 196th St. SW, Suite 100.
