Everett Silvertips fall 4-3 to Lethbridge Hurricanes as three-game winning streak is snapped

The Game

On Wednesday the Silvertips lost for just the second time in regulation this season when scoring first in a 4-3 defeat at Lethbridge.

Everett still made it interesting, however, as Noah Juulsen’s goal cut the deficit to one goal with four minutes to go. The Tips had several chances after pulling goaltender Mario Petit several times in the final two minutes, but couldn’t score to force overtime.

The Tips (11-6-0-1, 23 points) haven’t won more than three in a row at any point this season. But this game shows that they seem to be improving on the way they begin games while riding a winning streak. Head coach Kevin Constantine mentions the complacency teams experience when on a winning streak, but he was pleased with how the Tips came out in last week’s 3-0 loss at Spokane. I suspect he was also happy with the effort tonight. Both teams had 13 shots in the opening period and the Tips scored midway through the first to take a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. Everett finished with a 34-29 shot advantage.

Petit (0-1-0-0, 25 saves) made his first start in net as Constantine said Tuesday on the pre-game show. We’ll see if he gets another shot later in the week.

The Turning Point

Cory Millette scored a short-handed goal 1:33 into the final period off a brilliant feed from Kord Pankewicz. At the time it pushed Lethbridge’s lead to 4-2, but it ended up being the game-winner as the Tips went after the Hurricanes hard in the final four minutes.

Three Stars

1. Lethbridge F Egor Babenko: The Russian scored twice in the second period. His first goal tied the game while his second gave the Hurricanes the lead for good.

2. Lethbridge F Cory Millette: The overager scored twice himself including what proved to be the game-winner early in the third period.

3. Everett F Patrick Bajkov: Though he played well, Bajkov didn’t produce anything statistically.

HM: Everett D Noah Juulsen (one goal, +3 on the night), Everett F Remi Laurencelle (two assists), Everett F Carson Stadnyk (one assist, +2).
