Wednesday night was special for Everett Silvertips overager Remi Laurencelle, as he returned to Lethbridge for the first time since being dealt to Everett midway through the 2013-14 season. Though the Tips fell short by a 4-3 margin, Laurencelle played well, recording a pair of assists in the defeat.
“For me it was the experience,” Laurencelle told Silvertips broadcaster Mike Benton in a radio interview that aired during Wednesday’s first intermission. “It was the first place I got to play junior hockey, obviously, and it kind of got me used to the schedule and the lifestyle. Obviously my billet parents I still talk to. Friends, I still see them once in a while. It’s life. It’s something you do along the way, right?”
Laurencelle certainly blossomed since becoming a Silvertip. He leads the team with 14 points and is tied for the team lead with five goals this season.
“My first years (in Lethbridge) were probably pretty anonymous, but I think going to Everett was good for me,” Laurencelle told Benton. “Obviously doing (head coach Kevin Constantine’s) system obviously helped me a lot. You can look at my points and all that, but it was the system that put in the situation. Obviously I didn’t do very well in Lethbridge. I still enjoyed my time here. The coaches and everybody was great but it’s just how the hockey world goes right? If you can’t make one team you move on to the next one.”
The Tips have a quiet day today before they play at Medicine Hat Friday. They conclude the trip Saturday at Calgary before returning home for a pair of games against Tri-City Wednesday and Moose Jaw Friday.
It’s worth noting Everett scratched captain Dawson Leedahl last night. Constantine said Thursday that it’s a lower body injury and that Leedahl is day-to-day.
