Naval Air Station Whidbey Island on Nov. 5 received a Secretary of the Navy Energy and Water Management Platinum Award. The Platinum Award came with $5,000 to further energy efficiency or quality of life improvements. Naval Station Everett received a Gold Award. In all, Navy Region Northwest commands received one-third of the Secretary of the Navy cash awards given to shore facilities.
Veterans news
The Snohomish County Music Project hosts “Veteran: An Art Exhibit and Reception” with visual artist and veteran Steven Markussen, 6-8 p.m. Nov. 20 at the Northwest Music Hall, located inside the Everett Mall. The event will also feature a veteran jam band led by the Music Project’s music therapy director Karla Hawley. Donations are welcome. The event is free and open to the public. The exhibit is on display through Nov. 30 and features paintings and sculptures on the veteran experience of returning home from war.
The Marysville Family YMCA (6420 60th Drive NE) offers a free Military Family Night, 4-7 p.m. Nov. 21. Dinner, games, crafts, family swim time, dodgeball and more. All Active Duty, Reserve and National Guard families with current military ID are invited. Register at the Member Services desk or email Allison at AHoot@ymca-snoco.org to reserve your space.
