Carroll makes a Rawls comparison; no update on Lynch

Here’s what Seahawks coach Pete Carroll had to say on his Monday morning radio show on 710 AM:

– Carroll called the 29-13 victory over San Francisco on Sunday the team’s most complete game of the year.

– Carroll, of course, continued to praise running back Thomas Rawls following his 209-yard effort. Carroll was reluctant to offer his historical comparison for Rawls, but he eventually gave in and compared Rawls to former Houston Oilers great Earl Campbell because of his physical style. But Carroll was also quick to credit the offensive line for the part it played in Rawls’ big day.

– Rawls was playing in place of Marshawn Lynch, who sat out with an abdominal injury. Carroll had no update on Lynch’s status. Lynch is currently flying to Philadelphia, where he will meet with Dr. William Meyers, a core and muscle specialist, on Tuesday. The severity of Lynch’s injury won’t be known until then, but it remains possible Lynch has a sports hernia and will require season-ending surgery.

– Quarterback Russell Wilson had a nearly flawless day, and Carroll talked about how Wilson’s style fits with Seattle’s philosophy of play. He also said Wilson could still develop into a 40-pass-a-game QB, if the scheme requires it.

– Carroll said tight end Jimmy Graham was effective as a blocker.

– On the benching of cornerback Cary Williams in factor of Deshawn Shead, he said Shead deserved the opportunity to show what he could do and that the two will go back to competing this week. Carroll also said Jeremy Lane could be in the mix, should he prove he’s physically ready to be activated off the physically-unable-to-perform list.

– On the injury front, Carroll said guards J.R. Sweezy and Justin Britt, who both came out of the game briefly because of stingers, are fine. Center Patrick Lewis and receiver Doug Baldwin, who both left with ankle injuries, are sore, but Carroll sounded optimistic about their ability to get back for next week.
