BELLINGHAM — The Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board is considering applications from 19 businesses that want to sell medical marijuana in Whatcom County.
The Bellingham Herald reported that the board has approved six medical endorsements thus far for existing stores that have a license to sell recreational marijuana.
The board began accepting new applications last month. Medical pot is being incorporated into the recreational pot industry.
Businesses that have been selling medical marijuana, which has been unregulated, must not get a recreational license as well as the endorsement.
The stores will not be able to start selling medical marijuana until July 1, when the endorsements go into effect. July 1 is also when existing medical marijuana operations will have to shut down if they are not licensed.
