Did anyone else notice the irony present in two headlines on page B5 of Monday’s Herald? On the one hand, there was Pfizer, merging with Allergan in a $150 billion deal. That will allow Pfizer to obtain lower tax rates and make more profits because of by virtue of moving their headquarters abroad, legally, I might add.
Three inches below, was the headline: “Premiums increasing for Medicare drug plan.” Pfizer gets a sweet tax-lowering merger and Medicare recipients pay more for prescriptions? Isn’t something horribly wrong with a system which allows this to happen?
