LYNNWOOD — A permanent fix for 212th Street SW between Lynnwood and Mountlake Terrace is likely to happen in early 2016.
A 12-inch pipe failed underneath the asphalt Nov. 1, just east of 60th Avenue W. Seven homes lost water, and about 300 feet of roadway buckled.
Work on the temporary fix is wrapping up, City Engineer Jeff Elekes said Tuesday. A temporary water line was set for the affected homes and isolated the area of damaged pipe. Damaged asphalt was removed and new paving was installed.
Crews may have to dig back into the road in the near future, so final paving has not been scheduled.
That’s likely to occur in the spring, after it’s decided what to do with the water line, Elekes said.
The affected stretch of the water main is part of the last 1,000 feet of asbestos-lined concrete piping in Lynnwood. All of it may need to go. Engineers were working Tuesday to determine the options and the potential costs. The Lynnwood-Mountlake Terrace city limits splits the street length-wise.
