SEATTLE — About 15,000 participants and thousands more supporters are expected Sunday at the Seattle Marathon and half-marathon.
Organizers say the race has grown from humble beginnings in 1970 — when 38 competitors turned out for an event organized by a group of friends from the University of Washington — into the largest such race in the Northwest. It’s also one of the 10 largest in the country.
The event features a full marathon, a 13.1-mile half-marathon run, a half-marathon walk, a kids’ race and a two-day fitness expo.
