The Game
This was a solid win for the Silvertips. They’ve shown the ability to compete with anyone, particularly within the confines of Xfinity Arena. However, there have been question marks on the road. Sunday should go a long way toward alleviating some of those concerns.
This is the same Everett team that fell 3-0 at Spokane Nov. 11. The Tips even surrendered the first goal Sunday. But a shorthanded goal jumpstarted the offense as Everett scored three second-period goals to put the game away.
What can you say about the way Remi Laurencelle is playing? The overager scored twice in the Tips’ home opener, a 5-4 overtime victory against Spokane on Oct. 10. He didn’t score again until Nov. 13 (a span of 10 games) when he scored twice in a victory over Spokane. Since that game Laurencelle is on a nine-game point streak and has scored twice in each of Everett’s last three games. He leads the team with 12 goals and turned in a three-point performance Sunday.
Also of note: Laurencelle has five two-goal games this year; he’s also scored once in two games.
Goaltender Carter Hart finally allowed a goal, but it was tipped and he really had no chance. He was impressive with 25 saves and has now allowed just one goal in his last three games combined.
The Turning Point
Matt Fonteyne’s short-handed goal with 13 seconds to go in the first period tied the game. Everett cruised from that juncture.
Three Stars
1. Everett F Remi Laurencelle: The overager scored twice and added an assist. He has scores six goals in each of Everett’s last three games.
2. Everett G Carter Hart: The 17-year-old continued his tremendous season with another victory that included 25 saves.
3.Spokane F Riley Whittingham: Whittingham scored the game’s first goal.
