EVERETT — Prosecutors recently charged an Everett man with vehicular homicide in connection with the death of a bicyclist earlier this month.
Kerry Stark also is accused of fleeing the scene of the Nov. 19 crash that killed Gary W. White.
An Everett police officer reported that Stark, 58, smelled like alcohol when he was stopped.
Stark denied that he’d been drinking.
He was being held in the Snohomish County Jail on $150,000 bail. Prosecutors charged him by complaint last week in Everett District Court. They have until Dec. 11 to refile felony charges in Snohomish County Superior Court.
A witness reported seeing a black pickup truck driving erratically on 19th Avenue SE. The truck then hit a bicyclist in the 12600 block of 19th Avenue SE.
White, 41, was knocked off of his bicycle.
The pickup didn’t stop and the witness continued to follow it while calling 911.
Stark was stopped by police a short time later. He lives about 2½ miles north of the crash site but was headed southbound, according to court papers.
Everett firefighters and paramedics attempted to save White but he died at the scene. The medical examiner determined that White suffered fatal head injuries.
Stark was taken to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett, where his blood was drawn for testing. He was later booked into the county jail.
