COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The father of a Colorado Springs woman says she was accompanying a friend to a Planned Parenthood clinic when she was killed in a shooting rampage.
John Ah-King, who told The Denver Post that his daughter, 36-year-old Jennifer Markovsky, was one of three people who died Friday when a gunman opened fire. He described Markovsky as a kind-hearted, lovable person with two children.
Also killed in the shootout was 44-year-old University of Colorado police officer Garrett Swasey. The third victim has been identified as Ke’Arre Stewart, 29, an Iraq War veteran and father of two.
Colorado Springs police say they will not disclose why a gunman opened fire at a Planned Parenthood clinic, killing three people.
Police said in a statement Sunday that they are sealing the warrants related to the case against 57-year-old Robert Lewis Dear. They say they are not providing information on the weapon used in Friday’s shooting, a timeline of events or a motive of the suspect.
That will continue to stoke speculation about what led to the shooting that killed a police officer and two other people. Dear is scheduled to make his first court appearance Monday afternoon.
The University of Colorado police officer who died in a shooting at a Planned Parenthood clinic has been remembered with laughs and cheers at the church where he was a co-pastor.
Parishioners at the nondenominational Hope Chapel remembered 44-year-old Garrett Swasey on Sunday as a trusted partner in prayer and a champion athlete.
Swasey’s widow, Rachel Swasey, said in a statement Sunday that “his last act was for the safety and well-being of others.” She says the family will cherish memories of him tossing the football with his son and snuggling with his daughter.
The community also honored Garrett Swasey at two vigils Saturday.
Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper said the two civilian victims killed in the shooting at a Planned Parenthood were a man and a woman.
