SNOHOMISH — The Glacier Peak and Snohomish boys basketball teams will honor Jan and Charlie Stecher, two community members who have been involved with youth basketball for 46 years, at Tuesday’s season-opener between the Grizzlies and the Panthers.
Charlie Stecher, who passed away in June, spent much of his life coaching basketball in Snohomish, both at the high school and youth levels. He coached kids until he was 76-years old, slowing down only for health reasons.
Both Charlie and his wife Jan were always willing to do whatever was needed to help grow basketball in Snohomish.
Jan has kept stats for Glacier Peak since the school opened in 2008. Charlie and Jan’s grandson Jim is the JV coach for the Grizzlies.
“I give them a ton of credit for developing the talent that came through Snohomish 15 years ago,” Glacier Peak head coach Brian Hunter said. “For us at Glacier Peak, they quickened the process for us to become successful. Whatever was needed the two of them were willing to do.”
