Regarding the letter, “They’re fleeing war, are vetted”: The writer took issue with another letter writer who chose to put the word refugees in quotes, as if to indicate that they were not legitimately fleeing threats in Syria. The fact is that the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security have stated that they cannot possibly vet all the Syrians that Obama intends to bring into this country. Moreover, the Islamic State has bragged that it is using the current refugee crisis in Europe to insert its terrorist operatives into Western nations.
A number of European nations have already apprehended Syrian “refugees” with fraudulent credentials who have been identified as ISIS agents.
According to current reports, the Obama administration is moving to increase and accelerate the number of Syrian refugees who might be admitted into the United States by opening new screening outposts in Iraq and Lebanon. He wants them here ASAP, and specific locations have been designated to receive them. A number of states have already told the Obama administration that they will not accept them, primarily because they haven’t been, and won’t be, sufficiently vetted.
It would be extremely naïve to believe that every one of the thousands of Syrian refugees are actually fleeing conditions at home, or that they are, in fact, even Syrians, and not using their “refugee” status as cover to get into Western nations to continue carrying on the destruction they have vowed to commit. Many of us old cynics still cling to the “better safe than sorry” idea.
