South Snohomish County voters have elected four familiar political candidates and two newcomers to the Snohomish County Charter Review Commission.
Voters in each of the county’s five county council districts elect three commissioners every 10 years.
The 15 commissioners elected in the Nov. 3 election will meet throughout 2016 to consider possible amendments and other changes to the county’s home-rule charter. Proposed amendments could end up on future ballots.
Those elected Nov. 3 in County Council districts 3 and 4 include a state senator, a former county office holder, a newly elected school-board member and a former legislative candidate, along with newcomers Natalia Fior and Cheryl Stanford. District 3 includes Edmonds, Woodway, Lynnwood and unincorporated areas of Snohomish County south of Mukiteo. District 4 includes Mountlake Terrace, Brier, Mill Creek, the Snohomish County portion of Bothell and unincorporated areas near those communities.
District 3 voters picked Fior, a fundraising consultant for non-profit organizations; Edmonds School District Director-elect Carin Chase, who is chairwoman of the 32nd Legislative District Democrats; and Democratic 21st Legislative District State Sen. Marko Liias.
Those elected in District 4 include former Snohomish County Auditor Bob Terwilliger, who later became administrator of the Snohomish County Superior Court; political newcomer Cheryl Stanford, a county planning commission member and commercial insurance broker; and former Republican legislative candidate Ed Barton, who lost to 1st Legislative District State Rep. Luis Moscoso in 2014.
Fior, Chase and Liias were first, second and third among 16 candidates in Council District 3, just ahead of former Lynnwood City Councilwoman Lisa Utter. Terwilliger, Stanford and Barton finished 1-2-3 among 10 candidates in Council District 4, ahead of former Republican legislative candidate Heidi Munson.
