PASCO — A man charged with vehicular homicide in a hit-and-run crash that killed a Pasco father of two has been sentenced to 8 1/2 years in prison.
The Tri-City Herald reported that Miguel Paniagua, 24, was sentenced Monday to the maximum prison time allowed under state law. He previously pleaded guilty to several charges, including vehicular homicide and failing to stop at a fatal crash.
Paniagua fled from police during an April 2 traffic stop and crashed into Jason Smith’s car at 85 mph.
Paniagua left the scene but was arrested two weeks later.
Deputy Prosecutor Frank Jenny said in court Monday that Paniagua has cooperated with authorities since his arrest and has expressed remorse for his actions.
