Forward/midfielder Lamar Neagle of Federal Way is on the verge of being traded from his hometown Seattle Sounders to D.C. United, the Washington Post reported Monday.
Neagle, 28, has played six MLS seasons, including five with the Sounders. In 2015, he recorded four goals with two assists in 31 appearances with 23 starts. However, he lost playing time late in the season when Chad Barrett was getting top reserve minutes at forward while players such as Andreas Ivanschitz were getting time in midfield. Neagle played 72 minutes over the final five regular-season games, and did not appear in any of the three playoff matches.
Steven Goff of the Post reported Neagle could be sent to D.C. for allocation money, which can be used to reduce the impact of contracts against the MLS salary cap.
Sounders FC had no comment on the report.
It would be the second time Neagle has been traded from the Sounders. He spent the 2012 season with expansion Montreal as part of the trade that brought Eddie Johnson to Seattle. Neagle returned to the Sounders the following offseason in exchange for an international roster spot.
Neagle attended Thomas Jefferson High School and UNLV.
The Post also reported that D.C. had agreed to trade attacker Chris Pontius to the Philadelphia Union, also for financial considerations.
