SCFOA Banquet honors 50 local football players

MUKILTEO — The Snohomish County Football Officials Association (SCFOA) honored 50 local football players at its 34th annual Hall of Fame Banquet Wednesday night at the Rose Hill Community Center.

The SCFOA, which honors a lineman and a back from each Snohomish County high school, also awards scholarships to five of the student athletes at the event.

Mountlake Terrace’s Luke Thurber, a wide receiver and defensive back, earned the $2,000 back scholarship at the Hall of Fame Banquet Wednesday night. Ethan Vymeister, a King’s senior, earned the top lineman award.

Every year, SCFOA member Jeff Schireman, and his wife Betty, give a $2,000 Armed Service Award. The 2015 recipient was Snohomish wide receiver/linebacker Peyton Plucker.

Cascade lineman Matt Straughn won the $1,000 lineman scholarship award and Aaron Martiz of Stanwood earned the $1,000 back award.

The annual celebration is hosted by the county’s football officials looking to give back and celebrate with the players they referee for on Friday nights. The SCFOA invites the players, their coach and their families to attend the annual dinner and award ceremony.
