You won’t be in Manhattan for the New Year’s Eve ball drop in Times Square?

The following is a list of just some of the New Year’s Eve happenings around Snohomish County.
New Year’s Eve show: Arguably Snohomish County’s best classic rock cover band, the Arlington-based Strutz plays a New Year’s Eve show at 9 p.m. Dec. 31 at the Medallion Hotel, 16710 Smokey Point Blvd., Arlington. Bad Company bassist Lynn Sorensen will join the band. Tickets are $50 each and a limited number are available. Cost includes an hors d’oeuvres buffet. Tickets are available at the Medallion, 360-657-0500. Drummer Toby Strotz (pronounced like his band Strutz) and some of his band mates — Dave Pettigrew, Deanne Hansen, Carol Harvey, Paul Christie and Mike Brandvold — were school mates at Arlington High School. “Having Lynn Sorensen performing with us is going to be a real treat,” Strotz said.
Everett Music Initiative’s Music at the Ballroom New Years Eve Party begins at 9 p.m. Dec. 31, Hansen Conference Center, Xfinity Arena, Hewitt and Broadway, Everett. More information is at everettmusicinitiative.org. Heritage Distilling sponsors the event, which features the bands Sisters and Lemolo with KEXP DJ Michele Myers. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 that evening. Information is at xfinityarenaeverett.com. SISTERS is an orchestra of two, and the Seattle duo played the inaugural Fisherman’s Village Music Festival, Sasquatch Music Festival, Bumbershoot and Capitol Hill Block Party. Seattle musician Meagan Grandall formed Lemolo in 2009 and the band has since been named one of the Best Seattle Bands by Seattle Magazine.
New Year’s Eve show: The Historic Everett Theatre has developed a reputation for hosting Rock and Roll Hall of Fame members. Roger Fisher, a founding member of the band Heart, will perform for the HET’s NYE show at 8 p.m. Dec. 31 at the theater, 2911 Colby Ave., Everett. If purchased ahead, tickets are $50 a couple, otherwise $30 each. Call the box office at 425-258-6766. The show benefits the nonprofit Marketplace Children’s Foundation. Also on the program are Rockin’ Roni Lee and the band Medicine Hat, whose members include Bryan Olson, Marty Hoyle, Greg Blanke, Don Bostwick, Craig Russell, Brad Russell, Gary Toothaker and Rick Boice.
A New Year’s Eve concert for the Northwest Music Foundation is set for Dec. 31 at Loco Billy’s Wild Moon Saloon, 27021 102nd Ave. NW, Stanwood. The bands performing are Nashville Northwest, and Jessica Lynne &The Cousins. Reserved seats are $45 each with buffet. General admission is $15 in advance or $20 at the door. Leslie “Star Drums” Milton and Gael “Lady Keys” Kurath are playing for a New Year’s Eve party at 8:30 p.m. Dec. 31 at the Prohibition Gastropub, 1414 Hewitt Ave., Everett. Born in New Orleans, Milton has been a drumming touring musician since he was 15. He’s appeared at the Apollo Theatre in New York City, was a session drummer in the 1960s in Los Angeles after meeting producers Bumps Blackwell and Quincy Jones, and has been playing gigs around the Puget Sound since 1977. A Washington Blues Society Living Legend, he met Kurath in the late 1990s and formed the band Star Drums and Lady Keys.
Traditional New Year’s Eve: A Black and White Ball with the 16-piece big band Camano Junction is set for 8 p.m. Dec. 31 at the Camano Center, 606 Arrowhead Road, Camano Island. Tickets are $25, including snacks and champagne toast. Cash bar. Tickets are $25. Call 360-387-0222 for more information.
Hang with the Norwegians on New Year’s Eve when Normanna Lodge No. 3 hosts its annual party with music by the Pickled Herring Band at 7 p.m. Dec. 31 at the lodge, 2725 Oakes, Everett. A New Year’s Eve Ball (black tie optional) at Bluewater Distilling is set for 7:30 p.m. Dec. 31 at the distillery, 1205 Craftsman Way, Waterfront Center, Port of Everett. The Jeff Busch Jazz Quartet, featuring Grammy award-winning singer Carlos Cascante, performs. Tickets are $50 each, and include a five-course dinner and champagne toast. The Seattle Symphony’s New Year’s Eve Concert, Countdown &Celebration begins at 8 p.m. Dec. 31 at Benaroya Hall, 200 University St., Seattle. Conducted by Andrew Grams, the concert features a performance of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. The post-concert party includes a glass of champagne, dancing to live music by electro-swing band Good Co, party favors and a midnight countdown. Ticket prices begin at $50. Call 206-215-4747.

Seattle fun: And if your kids can stay up and you don’t mind traffic, there’s always New Year’s Eve at the Seattle Center, beginning with festivities in the Armory at 8 p.m. Dec. 31. Then join thousands around Seattle to ring in the new year at one of the world’s largest structure-launched fireworks displays. “New Year’s at the Needle” starts just before midnight and can be seen from dozens of places in the city. If all else fails, watch the ball drop in Times Square at 9 p.m. our time and then go to bed.
