TORONTO — Air Canada said that a flight en route from Shanghai to Toronto was diverted to Calgary after emergency crews said heavy turbulence injured about 20 passengers.
Responders were dispatched to Calgary International Airport to treat the injured passengers.
Air Canada spokeswoman Isabelle Arthur said the Boeing 777 Air Canada flight AC088 was carrying 332 passengers and 19 crew members on Wednesday. She said the aircraft landed without incident.
The airline said some passengers will require hospitalization but could not confirm how many people will be sent to nearby hospitals.
There was no official word on the severity of the injuries.
Fire and other emergency crews were on hand when the plane landed.
