BOISE, Idaho — The Idaho Public Utilities Commission has accepted Idaho Power Company’s 20-year plan to meet the energy needs in southern Idaho and eastern Oregon.
The commission on Tuesday announced the approval of the company’s 144-page Integrated Resource Plan submitted in June that predicts an increase from 516,000 customers to 711,000 over the next two decades.
The company says its 17 hydroelectric projects on the Snake River and its tributaries will remain a key ingredient to meeting greater demand.
The commission says there’s disagreement about some aspects but the document is a plan that can be modified.
Idaho Power is allowed to operate as a monopoly but in return is regulated by the state.
Every two years the company is required to file an Integrated Resource Plan.
