The Seahawks received some good news on the injury front Thursday as strong safety Kam Chancellor and defensive end Michael Bennett both returned to practice on a limited basis.
Chancellor, recently named to the Pro Bowl, hadn’t practiced since suffering a bruised tailbone during Seattle’ 35-6 victory at Baltimore on Dec. 13. Chancellor’s progress has been slow, but his return to the practice field is a good sign.
Bennett, also named a Pro Bowler, was away from the team Wednesday to undergo an injection on his injured big toe. Bennett has played through the injury in recent weeks, but his effectiveness seemed to be diminished in last Sunday’s 23-17 loss to St. Louis.
However, not all the news was good for Seattle on Thursday. Tackle Russell Okung, who’s nursing a calf injury, did not practice. Okung participated in practice in a limited fashion Wednesday, but his inability to go Thursday suggests he didn’t emerge from Wednesday’s practice unscathed.
Guard J.R. Sweezy also sat out Thursday, missing his second straight practice because of a concussion. If Okung and Sweezy are unable to play in this Sunday’s season finale at Arizona, the Seahawks will be missing two-fifths of their starting offensive line.
Tight end Luke Willson also sat out his second straight practice because of a concussion.
