Juulsen’s goal lifts Silvertips to 4-3 win over Kamloops in OT

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — The Everett Silvertips continued their mastery of the new 3-on-3 overtime rules as Noah Juulsen scored the game-winner 46 seconds into the extra session to give the Tips a 4-3 victory at Kamloops Saturday before 3,656 fans at Sandman Center.

Juulsen beat Kamloops defenseman Matt Needham one-on-one to reach the front of the net and put the puck through goaltender Connor Ingram’s legs as the Tips rallied from a 3-1 third-period deficit.

Everett (22-12-0-2, 46 points) won its third straight and remained perfect in games decided in the five-minute overtime period at 5-0 while keeping hold of first place in the U.S. Division. Kamloops (18-14-4-1, 41 points) lost to the Tips for the ninth straight time though it did garner a point in the standings.

Everett’s Mario Petit earned his first victory of the season at goaltender in his second start of the season. Petit turned aside 14 shots as Carter Hart got the evening off.

It didn’t look promising as the Blazers opened up a 3-1 lead at 5:28 in the third following goals from Deven Sideroff and Matt Revel.

But the Silvertips responded with a power-play goal from Matt Fonteyne and a top-shelf wrister from Carson Stadnyk to tie the game at 3-3 at 12:49 in the third.

Juulsen’s game-winner came on Everett’s first opportunity in the extra session as the Tips won their second overtime game this week.

Everett, which entered the game near the bottom of the league in the penalty kill despite killing seven straight in two games against Kelowna this week, was once again touched up while down a man. Sideroff scored on Kamloops’ first power play at 16:46 in the second period to take the 2-1 lead.

The Blazers pushed the advantage to 3-1 when Revel went top shelf on a wrist shot from the left circle for an unassisted goal at 5:28.

The Silvertips scored on their fourth man advantage to cut the deficit to 3-2 at 7:38 in the third as Fonteyne put the rebound of a Graham Millar shot past Ingram.

Stadnyk tied it five minutes later to force overtime.

The Blazers opened the scoring when Collin Shirley took a pass in the slot and snuck the puck past Petit for the 1-0 advantage at 1:52 in the opening period.

Everett answered when a Lucas Skrumeda shot ricocheted to the stick of Brandon Ralph on the right side of the crease. Ralph made it 1-1 at 17:19 in the first period.

Stadnyk and Fonteyne each had a goal and an assist. Revel had a goal and an assist for the Blazers and Ingram recorded 34 saves.

The Tips return to action Friday at Kelowna.
