PASCO — The former director of the Downtown Pasco Development Authority has pleaded guilty to embezzling an estimated $90,000 from the agency.
The Tri-City Herald reported that Michael A. Goins, 36, pleaded guilty to theft Tuesday. Both the prosecution and the defense have agreed on a one-year prison sentence for Goins.
Goins has agreed to work with the state Auditor’s Office as it continues to investigate his embezzlement.
Goins allegedly told police he used money from the Pasco nonprofit, which is partially funded with taxpayer dollars, to pay for personal expenses from July 2013 to December 2015.
The agency’s board members fired Goins in December, weeks after his arrest. The group plans to start looking for a new executive director later this month.
