Tour: See recycling center up close
Recology CleanScapes, the vendor that handles collection service for Bothell, offers free monthly tours of its recycling center to residents of its service areas. Learn how paper, plastics and more are sorted and recycled, and how your actions affect the process.
Public tours are held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. the third Thursday each month at the facility in south Seattle. Private group tours for school groups or community organizations also are available.

Learn: Sound Waters is coming up
Are you passionate about the Salish Sea and Puget Sound? Sound Waters 2016 is set for 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Feb. 6 at South Whidbey High School, 5520 Maxwelton Road, Langley, on Whidbey Island.
The one-day public “university” features more than 60 fun and informative classes and presentations about the natural world and the fragile environment of the Salish Sea. Topics include earthquakes, tsunamis, geology, land risk literacy, emergency preparedness, ocean acidification, citizen science, cetaceans, salmon, birds, kelp, marine ecosystems, estuaries, watersheds, boating, fishing, underwater photography, shellfish harvesting, addiction to plastic, beneficial insects, gardening, forests and local history.
Cost is $48, or $25 for students and current teachers. Online registration closes Jan. 31.

Propose: Ideas for talk-worthy topics needed
Sno-Isle Libraries managers are planning the district’s 2016 Issues That Matter forum series of timely topics and want to add the public’s ideas to the mix. The programs are meant to encourage community conversations on high-profile issues. Some ideas so far include suicide, police and minority relations, and housing.
