COUPEVILLE — Detectives in Island County are investigating an illegal drug lab discovered over the weekend.
The lab was brought to the attention of the sheriff’s office by a property owner who had a neighbor check on his north Whidbey Island home due to a high electrical bill.
The neighbor found what he believed to be a drug lab in the downstairs bathroom, Sheriff Mark Brown reported. When deputies arrived, they found multiple chemicals, glassware and other items.
The Washington State Patrol was called to assist in collecting evidence. The Department of Ecology also sent a team to help with the cleanup.
Detectives believe the lab might have been used for making hallucinogenic drugs but are awaiting lab results.
A woman and her son were arrested.
