EVERETT — Snohomish County Executive Dave Somers has been named to the Sound Transit board of directors, one of the regional responsibilities he’ll shoulder in his new role.
Somers took office as executive at the beginning of the year after beating incumbent John Lovick in the November election.
The County Council named Somers to the transit agency’s 18-member board last week.
The council also reappointed Edmonds Mayor Dave Earling. Everett City Councilman Paul Roberts is the third board member from Snohomish County.
Important decisions loom as the Sound Transit board crafts a ballot measure known as ST3, which would raise taxes to pay for light-rail expansion to Everett, Tacoma and other destinations.
The agency is collecting information from local governments about preferred routes.
Somers was named earlier this month as vice president of the Puget Sound Regional Council, a planning group that takes on regional issues relevant to Snohomish, King, Pierce and Kitsap counties.
The PSRC coordinates with cities, towns, ports, tribes, transit agencies and state government.
