You can check for recalls on your vehicle at safercar.gov/checkforrecalls. The search engine works best with a vehicle identification number (VIN) but also offers a search by make and model.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates 1 in 4 cars with a safety recall never get the fix, even though dealers must offer the repairs for free. NHTSA manages vehicle safety recalls, sets vehicle safety standards, and requires automakers to recall vehicles that have safety defects or do not meet those standards.
