SPOKANE, Wash. — The case of Moses Lake school shooter Barry Loukaitis is headed back to a courtroom.
A hearing was held Friday in Ephrata in an attempt to set a date for when Loukaitis will be re-sentenced for the 1996 killing of a teacher and two fellow students at Frontier Middle School. But the Grant County clerk’s office says no date was set. Loukaitis did not appear in the courtroom.
Loukaitis was 14 when the shooting occurred on Feb. 2, 1996, and is serving a life sentence.
KXLY reports that a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision held that children under the age of 16 can’t be sentenced to life without the possibility of parole. That means Loukaitis must be re-sentenced in Grant County Superior Court.
