There has been so much press about the computer glitch that led to early release of inmates. I have yet to hear any discussion that the estimated 3,200 inmates actually resulted in very little crime and that we keep people in prison too long. The murder of the young man is tragic, and the avoidable death of a girlfriend in an auto accident happens all too frequently. I heard a discussion by a prison superintendent that people are very remorseful when first jailed, and for most that lasts about six months and then they become angry. The longer they are in prison, the angrier and more skilled in crime they get.
I hope someone sees this as an opportunity to reevaluate our sentencing guidelines and shorten prison sentences.
