Colin Resch and Suzanna Ohlsen are among 10 former Bearcats being inducted into the Monroe High School Hall of Fame on Friday.

They will be recognized during halftime of the boys basketball game between Jackson and Monroe.

Resch, Class of 1994, is being honored for his excellence in basketball and tennis. Now a sports anchor and producer in the Bay Area, he was the school’s consistent No. 2 singles in tennis “until my brother graduated,” he said in a statement released by the school district.

Resch placed seventh at state in singles as a freshman. In his junior season, he and his brother placed third at state in doubles.

But Resch is most proud of his basketball career.

“We went to state in 1994, and we hadn’t gone as a school in 43 years. It was a really big deal. You couldn’t get into the gym during our games, they were packed,” he said. “We were unstoppable. They let kids out of school when we went to state, bussed kids down to the game. That’s a great thing about that small town feel, when a team does something like that, especially when they haven’t for so long, everyone really feels a part of it.”

Ohlsen, Class of 2011, is being celebrated for her excellence in basketball. She was a four-year starter for Monroe, then played four seasons at Seattle Pacific University, earning CoSIDA Academic All-American National Player of the Year in her senior year.

Ohlsen, who plays professionally in Korea, also was named The Herald’s 2014 Woman of the Year in Sports.

The other Hall of Fame honorees include Jordan Birch, Anna Kloeck Caruso, Tony Creswell, Mike Fierke, Chad Gallatin, Ian Parmley, Justin Springer, and Ron Wolfkill.
