A strong sense of community pride and the stunning backdrop of Puget Sound shoreline and historical landmarks make Mukilteo a great place to call home, or just visit for the weekend.

“Mukilteo is special because we have a clear vision for our community: to be a sustainable, well-run city with strong neighborhoods,” said Jennifer Gregerson, mayor of Mukilteo.

The dedication and involvement of the community make events like the Mukilteo Lighthouse Festival, farmer’s market and other attractions possible.

“Mukilteo is special because we have a strong community spirit of volunteerism. Our residents gave new life to the Mukilteo Lighthouse Festival when city funding was no longer available about 10 years ago,” Gregerson said.

The lighthouse festival celebrates its 51st year this summer.

Those who can’t make the festival can always visit the Mukilteo Lighthouse itself. The 38-foot tall, Victorian-style, fyully functional navigational aid is a must-see when visiting the city.

It’s located at Mukilteo Lighthouse Park, a popular attraction for residents and visitors because of its romantic landscape and historical significance.

With views of Possession Sound and Whidbey Island, the park is situated along 1,500 feet of saltwater shoreline and offers restaurants, waterfront lodging, and fishing. There is a boat launch and picnic areas.

Volunteers hae played a role in other Mukilteo events.

“They created and continue to manage the Farmers Market, which allows residents and visitors to enjoy fresh, healthy local food all summer long,” Gregerson said. “And, more recently, volunteer efforts were integral in the city’s preservation and conservation of 140 acres in Japanese Gulch.”

The Japanese Gulch is Mukilteo’s newest outdoor recreation area, with 144 acres of urban forest with biking trails, a dog park, and community gardens.

Mukilteo is also the hub of the State Ferry system, with a ferry connecting to Clinton and Whidbey Island.
