Levies needed to fund the basics

As local small business owners and proud parents of daughters born and educated here in Lakewood, we would like to offer our views in support of both the Replacement Educational Program &Operations Levy, and the Replacement Capital Projects &Technology Levy. These levies are not just out-of-left-field pleas for money. They are the standard periodic updates that fill in the gaps left by state and federal funds. The bulk of the EP&O money supports teachers, curriculum, support staff, safety, and student services — all essential to the continued vitality of the schools. The Capital Projects Levy funds routine cleaning and upkeep; facilities maintenance; improvements; and equipment replacement. None of these things are “extras,” they’re all completely necessary and an efficient use of resources.

The money and energy we put into our schools reflects how we feel about education as a community, and when we show that we value learning it tells our kids that school is an important and worthwhile endeavor.

Vote yes on Feb. 9 and let’s show our kids that they’re worth it. Let’s show our teachers they’re worth it. And we’ll see that value reflected back into our wonderful little community.
