The Boeing Co. could deliver its newest jetliner, the 737 MAX, as much as six months early, reports the Wall Street Journal.
As WSJ’s Jon Ostrower notes, that is a rare feat in the aerospace industry nowadays.
The 737 MAX first flew last Friday.
The fist delivery — to Southwest Airlines — is scheduled for the third quarter of 2017, but it could be as much as half a year earlier, the Journal reports.
It is the fourth generation of Boeing’s popular single-aisle airplane, which was developed in the mid-1960s and is the best-selling jetliner of all time.
Airbus quietly delivered the first A320neo in late January to launch customer Lufthansa.
Boeing is considering a stretched 737 MAX with new wings and with room for as many as 245 passengers, Ostrower writes.
