EVERETT — A mental health counselor who was supposed to be helping a boy with depression has been arrested for investigation of molesting the child and indecent exposure.
Lyndon Boyd, 27, was booked into the Snohomish County Jail Monday after an incident at the boy’s Lynnwood home earlier in the day.
Because of his depression, the boy, 13, sometimes has trouble waking up in the morning, court papers said. The Compass Health worker had been coming to the home to help the boy get going.
On Monday, the boy’s mother walked into the boy’s room to find her son in the counselor’s lap and being rocked. The child was in his underwear and was not wearing a shirt.
The boy later told his mom that the counselor had pulled down his underwear and had touched him inappropriately. He also alleged that Boyd had tried to initiate sexually suggestive conversations that made him feel uncomfortable.
Detectives told the suspect that it appeared that he was grooming the boy because he allegedly brought up sex in conversations when they were alone, showed him his private parts when they were at a pool and touched the boy inappropriately.
The suspect told detectives “he understood how it looked, but that was not his intention,” according to a police report.
Boyd allegedly acknowledged that his behaviors were inappropriate for someone in his position “and what he had done was wrong,” the report said.
Bail was set at $250,000 on Tuesday.
Lynnwood police Cmdr. Jim Nelson said there are no other known victims and the suspect has no known criminal history.
