SPOKANE — The acting chief of the Spokane Police Department has announced his retirement, and will be replaced by former U.S. Attorney Jim McDevitt.
Interim Chief Rick Dobrow said Friday that he will retire effective March 1.
Mayor David Condon says Dobrow will be temporarily replaced by McDevitt, who will be the troubled department’s fifth leader in five years.
Dobrow was named interim chief after then-Chief Frank Straub was fired in September.
McDevitt served on a panel appointed by Condon last year to help define the qualities needed in a new chief. Condon says he expects McDevitt to lead the department for about four months until a new chief is hired.
